May contain spoilers. I'm gonna talk a bit about events until like the beginning of the fifth book. Cannot be bothered to actually write something about all of them.
Well, the first book made me give out a sigh for having wasted about three hours of my life on it. But somehow I was intrigued enough to see whether the writing improves along the way. Surprisingly it had, and considering reading it didn't pose too much threat in lowering my IQ down to my shoe size, I've finished 'Frostbite' and have moved on to the next.
I know what you're thinking, why would you continue reading something you haven't particularly liked? Simple, I do not have the time to read heavy material or something that would make me think for a bit. I'm probably being a bit mean here since it did pose a few good ideas and the characters became more likable along the way. Maybe because of their snarky personalities and sarcastic lines.
The romance is still far-fetched and over emphasized, and I did have to skim through some of the pages because it kept rambling on and on about one thing: Dimitri. I liked most of the characters even though at first they were quite shallow, getting a few new traits along the way, yet I couldn't help and want to bitchslap Rose for always thinking about her guardian-lover-turned-Strigoi, or spacing out once too often. She does snap out of it though and have to admit she is a bit badass, a term used a lot in the book.
The action is sometimes very slow paced and makes way for the author to stick in some more Dimitri-Roza romantic fillers, whether they are memories or dreams. I've learned how to skim through these as well.
I liked the whole shadow-kissed thing including the weird occurrences (which in a way bonded well together), spirit magic and their users, that she included some references to Eastern Europe (though the Siberia-Russia borderline was a bit vague) and even words that me, as a Romanian born in Transylvania(close to the source of the myth), never really thought I would find in a book as such. Even though I guess in a way it shouldn't be so surprising.
I am a bit conflicted because it turned out to be not as bad as I expected. Yet to be honest, the ideas are topping the poor writing that occurs in most of the books. It annoyed me to hell that a lot of terms and happenings in previous books get explained every once in a while, as if the author is trying to make the books stand-alones. It sounds like a broken record repeating information for mentally impaired people suffering from a mild form of Alzheimer's.
I think the characters I like best have to be Adrian and Christian so far.
Reading the entire Vampire Academy series was like watching an alcoholic unicorn chucking-up rainbows while small children clap. It had a few good ideas, but not very brightly put into the spotlight.

telegramele mele sau poate
nu credeai ca e vital cand
lumea mea se descompunea
in ceasuri si goluri
de mine
au imbatranit in cadente
si sentimentele mele
sub greutatea
atator vieti netraite...
